Advanced Budokon Yoga Transitions - by Cameron Shayne - Floating and Inverting. Also back exercise from Kino and Patrick.

So you can watch my slow, modified for back pain, Surynamaskara from this mornings post OR you can watch this stunning, floaty transition video instead.

Thank you to James for the heads up on this, for some reason your comment had ended up in blogger's spam box.

I tended to be a bit disillusioned with arm balances back when I was exploring Advanced A, seemed to be playing to my strengths as a guy, ie leanings towards upper body strength. At the time I found the second half of Advanced A much more interesting and challenging.

Coming around to them again now though, although I'm not exploring them that much, mostly appreciating them more in others. It's not just about upper body strength but working with the bandhas, the subtle shifts of body weight, in a word control...which of course is focus and concentration, the name of the game.

This should give you an idea of what I mean- don't blink at the beginning you'll want to skip back and play the first one again, watch the hands.

"The Budokon®Yoga style recognizes tradition while innovating and leading the way for what is possible. We recognize that Yoga does not look the same as it did 5000 years ago or even 5 years ago, therefore, we continue to press the boundaries of creativity while maintaining the crucial therapeutic application of asana".

And why not take a look at this one too. I posted recently on a couple of videos by Meghan Currie and how she reminded me about the movement aspect of Vinyasa, breath and movement. I tend to focus more on the breath aspect than the movement at times. Good reminder below to be more aware of the movement along with the breath in our own practice

Oh and Thanks too to Kino for posting this backbending video with Patrick. I like the internal rotation of the thighs idea and especially the 'constructive rest position'. My back was feeling a lot better after my modified practice this morning but after spending all day sitting at my bench repadding a Saxophone it was aching again by the end of the day. Ten minutes or so in Kino's Constructive rest position and it feels much better.

Couldn't resist explore this in Ramaswami's dwipadapitam (desk pose) variations from Vinyasa Krama's Supine sequence, Makes all the difference trying these while holding the idea of the  internal rotation of the thighs in mind

from my Vinyasa Krama Practice book.

Wow the control in that clip is amazing, perhaps I will get there in my next lifetime ;-) I hope your back is feeling better

Yes, back is a lot better today thank you, getting there but wont be trying anyone these transitions for a bit. have just added the second Budokan video back in, blogger dropped it (they keep doing that, frustrating).

These are so difficult, I can't even imagine myself doing them half as well as he does. Perfect balance. I'd like to see him breakdance :)

I didn't watch any of the videos (almost bed time!), but I wanted to say that learning the arm balances of 3rd was what healed a rotator cuff thing (I think) in my right shoulder that had PLAUGED me for 2 years. Used to keep me up at night, even after loads of advil. Throb, throb, throb. I guess all the Sirsasana work hit things just right in order to stabilize...

Thanks Boodie, it much much better, tempted to do a Modified primary this morning but think I'll stick with what I practiced yesterday, seems to be working. Arm balances as healing, who knew. Might see about exploring 3rd again next year once my 2nd settles down and stabilises again, no rush.

Glad you liked, Grimmly! I don't know about all the tai chai-esque stuff in the primary series, that seems against my "get on with it" attitude to flourishes. But I do love the fancy floaty stuff, can't help myself. I'm working on third series now and am loving trying to float into all the arm balances (nowhere near this guy yet, but...), in addition to the traditional transitions from sirsasna. Have you seen Kino's transitions from handstand to Astavakrasana? That's no joke either.

Yes, coming back a round to the floaty stuff. haven't seen the Kino Astavakrasana, does it have a video of it's own or part of her demo. Got Kino'd out for a while, so many demo's so many tutorials, started watching them again though.

Did come across my own from way back in 2009, it's astavakrasana from handstand but only one side before going back to Chatauranga,

Does Kino float back up to handstand in between sides? Took me ages to get the shift in bodyweight right to switch sides in sirsasana, let alone handstand.
Never did manage to go up to handstand after anything other than navasana and even that's a bit of a cheat. have been lazy with this stuff.
