September 2012 Newsletter from Srivatsa Ramaswami---??

August was hectic and eventful. I completed teaching the 200 Hr
Teacher Training Progam in Vinyasakama Yoga at LMU on Aug 11, 2012. It
was quality time spent with a group of sweet 16+ participants. I
returned to NJ on Aug 12th. Midnight 14th, I received a call from
Hyderabad informing me of the sudden death of my 88 year old mother in
law
Dr  Nagalakshmi Narayan. I rushed to Hyderabad with my wife Uma and
was
there almost until the end of the month. The taxing last religious
rites and rituals were performed by her last grandson the 12 year old
Shreyes Narayan.

She was a highschool graduate and just 16 when she was married. After
the birth of two daughters, she went back to school and obtained her
Ph D in linguistics focussing on Hindi and Sanskrit. Her thesis, a
comparative study of the works of two great natioanalists from two
different region and languages in India won her a national award and a
citation from the President of India. She was a popular professor at
Womens College affiliated to Osmania University in Hyderabad India..
She retired as distinguished Professor. She had also obtained a law
degree.
She raised her two daughters to become medical doctors one, a
gynecoloist and
the other a surgeon. May her soul rest in peace.

Due to the hectic travel and varying circumstances I could not settle
down to write an article for the month. I was toying with the idea of
two topics. One on the "Use of breath in Asana practice of
Krishnamacharya Yoga. The other on "Chittavritti, an Illusion? trying
to link the two disparate Vedic philosophies, Yoga and Advaita
May be I will send the article mid-September.

I will be reaching USA on Sep 5th. I am scheduled to teach at Chicago
Yoga Center from the 7th for about ten days.
