Guest post: Comparison of Advanced series in 1974 Syllabus with Current practice

Received an email last week from Robert N. Campbell with an attached comparison of  the Ashtanga syllabus list given to Nancy Gilgoff and David Williams by Sri K Pattabhi Jois in 1974 with the more current version of syllabus/Sequence.

Here's the email, a link to my post with the 1974 list (which also has it's own permanent page at the top of the blog) and Rob's comparison.

I've also added a couple of Appendix of my own, the relevant pages of Nancy's 1974 list covering the Advanced postures as well as the proficient group of postures table from Krishnamacharya's 1942 Yogasanagalu

Feel free to discuss the comparison with Rob in the comments.

Thanks Rob for sharing this.

Hi Grimmly,

Hope you don't mind sending you an attachment by email.

I read your blog post the other day, the one which showed an old list of postures for the advanced a and b series. Just out of interest I thought I'd compare that list to the current one - unfortunately I can't find a list which separates 5th and 6th series but I've done what I can for now. Anyway, the list is attached, feel free to do whatever you want with it (I haven't got a blog of my own).

Best regards

Rob

Here are the pages covering the Advanced series from Nancy's 1974 list,
given to her by Sri K Pattabhi Jois

See Here for the full 1974 list/syllabus

Might be interesting to compare this with Krishnamacharya proficient group list from His 1942 book Yogasanagalu
