"By the way, for me and for some friends, it is easier to come up after you drop back. Even now, I feel so, even though i cannot actually stand up now. You feel much open getting to UD from standing position. If you are interested in trying another new move while trying to come up, it may help."
Haven't dropped back for months, first time I tried I landed it fine, second time I landed on my head. http://grimmly2007.blogspot.com/2008/08/2-ashtanga-accident-videos-dropping.html Decided it was best to come back to it after working on my backbends some more.
Promised Momo last night I would give it a go and post a video. So here goes.......
Drop back attempts 1 and 2.... to the Sofa bed
Drop back attempt 3....to cushions
Drop back attempt 4...... to mat
Warning: My hand slipped a little on the 2nd attempt and I Jarred my wrist slightly. I suggest laying a spare sticky mat over the cushions to give you more grip as you land and to give you some purchase for trying to come back up again.

Hi, Grimmly,
It's me again.
It's great to see you did it, and it's beautiful! :)
Hope your wrist is not too bad.
I did also hurt my wrist a while ago, and I am keeping my folded blanket/yoga rug below my mat when I do dropback.
One more thing I learned, or was told by a teacher in Tokyo was to extend your arms from the beginning when dropping back.
I used to do it like you do before, but by extending my arm from the beginning, I now feel I have more control for longer (before I lose control and drop), and my frontal body gets fully stretched. When I start with my arms folded, I feel I literally "drop" at the moment when I stretch my arms, even if I have slightly more control until then, and feel I can gradually strech my back and chest...
In any way, it's great to see there are some people who are trying the same thing as I do. :)
good luck and I'll say hi to Hachiko next time I'm in Shibuya!
Thanks Momo. My wrist is fine, I was just being a little careful with it last night so didn't try coming up too hard. Think your right that it's a good idea to practice dropping back and coming up together. I'll try the arm extended out from the beginning method, have seen lucus Rockwood do it that way on youTube, be nice to have control all the way down "iina". Thanks again.
Yeah, all Momo's advice is good.
I was thinking the cushions looked dangerous, though I couldn't actually play the 2nd one.. about a quarter of your clips won't play for me for some reason..
I think what you need to do now is focus on the follow-through with the inhale... you know like with a golf swing or a pool shot? That's what it feels like I'm doing with the inhale when it brings me up.
Also, try to keep your feet straighter - keep adjusting your heels out. Heels out, inner heel down.
Thanks Susan, love the golf swing follow through idea. Actually it was the second drop back in the first video that i jarred my wrist slightly. Where I'd taken the cushions off it was the base of the sofa bed, was a little slippery. Think this was just a confidence building excercise, getting a better awareness of how far away the floor actually is. I was focusing on the drop back but think it could be a good way for working towards coming up. just need to find the "Sweet spot" Sweeney uses a wall in a similar way in his new book but the wall just doesn't seem to work for me.
Wrist is fine by the way, hope yours is coming along nicely. thanks again, as ever, for your excellent suggestions, really appreciate them.
Really do love this golf swing metaphor : )
Anyone else have trouble viewing my videos?
For coming up, I think all you need to do is to bend your knees a tiny bit more in order to bring your center of gravity over your heels. To get over the mental block, you culd think of shifting your weight forward to land in a kneeling position, but I'll bet you will end up standing instead.
